1) My experience as a distant learner this semester has been very different and not at all what I assumed. When I first heard that school was online, I was extremely sad but kinda excited to see if the workload would be much easier online. I like how flexible and optional online/distant learning is because I don't always have to physically be present in a classroom to still learn and i'm able to be in class while multitasking other tasks. I dislike alot about distant learning. With everything going on in our country, I assumed that teachers would be understanding of the crisis and the amount of stress it puts on college students but they aren't and
the work load seems harder. Also, I don't like how hard it is to contact and hear back from my teachers via email when I could've just waited until after class if school was in person. In addition, I want to be a teacher so the educational/child classes I am taking now are important to me and it's harder to learn and stay focused when I am listening through a computer. If I were a teacher, something I'd do to help with distant learning is having check ins where I ask my kid how they're doing as people and in this class because it shows that I care about how everything is affecting them and I want to help as best I can.
2) The three online educational resources that I can think of are Google, Wikipedia, and e-textbooks. Google is a really good online source for me because you can search and find anything through their search engine, they have several different subdivisions that are helpful such as Google docs, and it's easily accessible through most devices. Wikipedia is an online resource that isn't really reliable or factually correct but it's really helpful when figuring out dates such as when a prominent and influential figure in society was born. E-textbooks are a great resource to have because all of the valuable and informative information in textbooks are right in front of you on your device and it helps you learn so much about every subject there is. The oer website that I found is extremely helpful for learning about open educational resources. The website gives the definition of a open educational resource, tells you the types of oers, the benefits of these resources and how it is utilized in k-12 learning.
3) I got so many new skills from the powerpoint assignments ! I learned how to make an interactive game by figuring out liner navigation, shape animation and hyper links. I learned how to create audio in a power point show and how to use slide master which was really cool. Also, I learned how correctly use smart art and clip art in both presentations. I don't like how time consuming and tedious these powerpoint assignments are because one wrong move may mess up the entire powerpoint and that's stressful. I don't like how my audio for my powerpoint wouldn't play in a slide show because I recorded so much audio before realizing that fact. In my future, I think I can prevent the stress resulting from the amount of time it takes if I just started earlier.
